Classing it Up

We weren't the only ones excited for the Derby!
If you are anything like me, then you are always up for a good theme.  And darling, the Kentucky Derby is like the best theme party ever!  I love having an excuse to dress up.  So of course I used this sporting event as a chance to get dolled up and wear crazy hats.  And the best part is, I convinced others to do it with me!

Let's give you a timeline of the day:

1:30pm: Brunch!  Put three girls, one boy, four snazzy outfits and a couple of cool hats at one table and what do you have?  Well a derby brunch of course!  And a slightly boozy derby brunch at that.

2:30pm:  Still at table.  Still drinking.

3:30pm:  Yep, still here.  Mimosas are sliding down gently.  Hats are starting to feel a bit less foolish.

4:00pm: Starbucks run.  I mean, isn't there some horse race thing?  At this point I can't think clearly.  Hopefully some coffee will clear the haze a little bit.

4:45pm: In Mo's apartment.  Wait...is there champagne in my Starbucks cup?  When did that happen.  Weird.

5:00pm: Look up horses names.  Have to at least appear slightly knowledgeable to defend outfits.

5:15pm: Intense discussion about who to root for: Charming Kitten and Itsmyluckyday frontrunners in our hearts if not in Vegas'

6:00pm: AHH! We only have 24 minutes till the race! We have to go!  Where's the nearest Irish bar?

6:01pm: Irish bar right next door...we are saved.

6:05:  See! I'm not the only one who was excited about the race!  And, we are far from the only people to dress up.  If I didn't know any better, I'd have sworn we were in Kentucky, not downtown Manhattan.

6:24:  Scream.  Scream some more.

6:26:  Yeah!  Wait...that was it?  Huh.  Ok.  Time for the next bar.  Wait who won again?  Orb something or other...

Sometimes, the actual sporting event is the least important part of the day.  The Derby is one of those days for me.  But that doesn't make it any less fun.  Hope to see you next year rocking your best southern belle outfit!
